Our Pitch

One task we had to complete required us to pitch our music video idea to the rest of the class, in order to gain feedback and any changes they feel would make the video improve. Due to our peers being in the same age range as our target audience, we took this opportunity very seriously when looking back at their feedback.  We created a power point outlining our main idea, the props we would use, artist profile, locations, camera shot ideas and information on our chosen song and original artist. We made sure to highlight that our main aim when creating the music video was to convey the overall 'happy' tone of the song and lyrics, we pitched this by stating the colourful props we would use.

Our Props and Equipment

Throughout the filming process we used a video camera a lot in order to get the shots we needed. This particular camera we used was very efficient as the hand strap on the side made it easier to keep the camera steady. This had an overall affect on how professional our video looked, as if the shots were shaky, the audience may find it less appealing to watch. We also used a tripod a lot during filming as this allowed us to zoom in and out and move the camera from side to side without it shaking. On some shots we also used our phones to film, this is because the quality of camera was very good and it was easy to move around and get into the angles we needed. We used the same type of camera as our AS portfolio as we felt that the quality was very good. We used the camera a lot to take practise shots, and to also practise filming the lip syncing. When filming we used multiple cameras in order to get different angles of the same shot, this was helpful when it came to editing as we had lots of shots to choose from.

One reoccurring narrative in our music video is a dancer in front of a graffiti background. In order to get this background we had to film him dancing in front of the green screen. This was a new skill for us to develop as we decided not to use the green screen in our AS portfolio. We carried out some practise shots using the green screen which helped our understanding of how it works. On the day of filming, we adjusted the lights so that the shot wasn't too dark, we also attached the camera to a tripod in order for it to keep still. When our dancer was being filmed we made sure to zoom in and out in order to capture different moves. We tried different backgrounds before hand, but decided as a group that the graffiti background best fitted with our target audience. We did hope to use the green screen more, however due to us filming on different locations, we didn't want the audience to be put of by too many edited shots.

In our pitch we outlined that we would use balloons in certain shots in order to convey the fun and uplifting tone of the song. Also balloons link in well with some of the lyrics, therefore we felt that as a prop they would fit in well. We filmed some shots of different people kicking and throwing lots of balloons outside, however when it came to editing  we felt that the shots did not fit in well with the other ones we had taken. We also felt that the numerous people playing in the balloons looked slightly messy as they found it tricky to control the balloons. Despite this obstacle, we still feel that by filming with the balloons we were able to successfully see how we want our video to look.
