Costume Choices

As a group we spent a lot of time researching what type of outfits our artist and dancers should wear, this is because if the outfit doesn't match the artist's persona; the video will look unprofessional. We watched numerous music videos in the same 'Pop' genre as us in order to gain an understanding as to what kind out outfits the artist wear. Our artist is male so we watched a number of current music videos with males singers and group members. The outfits we put together also need to fit the narratives of the music video, for example we plan to have a male dancer; this dancer is young therefore the outfit needs to fit his age (cool clothes such as jeans/baggy t-shirt).

Sam Smith is a growing sensation in the music industry and many of his music videos are widely acclaimed. In his song "Money on my Mind" Sam wears a smart black shirt with a blazer, this is a common outfit of his as he regularly wears suits in his videos and public appearances. As a group we decided that a smart outfit would fit well with our song, therefore in some of our shots our artist James Gomez wears a smart red shirt with a black blazer.

Bruno Mars is another popular artist who has written and performed a number of chart topping songs. We gained inspiration for an outfit from his hit "The Lazy Song". In this video he is wearing a casual shirt with black jeans, which really fits in well with the mood of the song and the lyrics. As a group we decided that our artist James Gomez will have a costume change to a casual blue and white chequered shirt and black trousers with a baseball jacket.

Aside from our artist James Gomez, we are including a dancer in our music video who will appear in a lot of shots. Therefore we felt that we should research artists/dancers to see what kind of outfits they wear. The artist Drake is a good example of how we want our dancer to be portrayed, in this shot Drake wears a stand out shirt which appeals to a younger audience as its trendy and unique. Therefore as our video is aimed at the younger generation we decided to dress our dancer in a casual patterned t-shirt and a beanie.

We feel that the outfits we have chosen fit the genre of our music video well, and also appeal to our target audience which will make our music video more popular.
