Now that we had all decided on an image to use as our front cover, we were able to upload it to Photo Shop to begin editing. I was not that familiar with Photo Shop as we did not need to use it for our AS portfolio. However, I made sure that I knew how to work all of the editing tools as we needed to make sure that our album cover looked the best it could.
Now that image was uploaded, we needed to get the brick wall background on, we decided to go with a white brick wall, as we believe it would make the balloons stand out more. We wanted to get the brick wall background on without affecting the balloons, to do this we selected the 'quick selection' tool. After the tool had been selected, we clicked on the outline of one of the balloons, so that a selection outline appears around the area we clicked on. We continued clicking around the balloons, however due to the balloons having curved edges, the selection outline continually went onto the background. Therefore we used 'command + Z' to undo the selection, and then redone the outline.
Here is an example of what the 'quick selection'
tool looks like on an image

Once all of the balloons had been outlined, we had to try and outline the string so that the background would not cover it. This caused a lot of difficulty as the 'quick selection' tool works best on an image that is larger. Every time we tried to select around the string, it would overlap onto the background of the image; therefore we decided to cover the string and edit them on once the background was inserted. The next thing we needed to do was chose our background image.

Now that we had our brick wall background selected, we saved it as a file ready to insert into Photo Shop. We then set the mode to multiply, and added in the brick wall image as another layer.

We then selected the 'paint' tool, and began painting around the balloons. Due to the balloons being outlined, none of the brick wall covered them
Once the background was filled with the brick wall, we began editing on the string by copying and pasting an image as a new layer. This was difficult as it was hard to find an image that would fit in with the balloons and the background. We also felt that by inserting in an image of string, made the overall image look unrealistic. Before we continued with the editing of the image, we had a group meeting to decide whether not having the string would hinder how the audience reacted to our album cover.
Due to having plenty of time, our group decided to take a different approach on the album cover, however we still feel that what we had already created gave us inspiration for other ideas. I now understood many of the Photo Shop tools, which would help when we began editing our new album cover image.
