Photo Shoot for New Album Cover

To begin the process of creating our new album cover, we organised a day where we would take our new image. After talking as a group, we decided the location of our photo shoot would be the main building that we used in our music video. We chose this because we felt that the brick walls were very clean and the bricks also stood out due the different patterns and their bright orange colour. We decided to use the same cannon camera as last time, as we felt that the picture quality was very good. We wanted to follow our plan as close as possible, so that when it came to editing, we knew we would be faced with no obstacles.

I feel that the photo shoot was very productive, as we knew how we wanted the image to look, so we did not have to spend a lot of time trying other positions. The images we were taking are very similar to the sketch we done, this shows that our planning skills were effective. Once we had all of our images, we uploaded them to Photo Shop, and began looking through them. We looked at the picture quality, the lighting, the position of the artist and the type of camera shot we used. We knew we wanted to use an image where the the artist was not looking directly at the camera, therefore we had the choice between three images. Despite the fact that all three images were quite similar, we were adamant to make sure that we made the right decision, as we did not want to repeat our mistakes from last time. We all agreed on a shot and began looking at how we could enhance the image, without hindering the quality of the image.

This is the image that we chose to be the cover of our album. We felt that the angle of our artist was very strong, and his facial expression will capture the audience. Our artist looks very smart in this image, however will still appeal to our target audience, as suits are very popular with modern 'pop' artists. The bricks are a really nice shade of orange which helps make the artist stand out. One change we have decided to make from our original plan, is to have the text in the bottom right hand corner over his suit. We have decided that the font will be white, as this will stand out over the black suit. We feel that this a good change as we decided that the bricks would look good being kept uncovered. We have made these decisions before we start editing so that we are organised when it comes to the actual editing process.

Before we took the shots, we took a video explaining how we wanted it to look, from this it is evident that we have finished with a image that best fits what we desired. It helped to say out loud how we wanted our album cover look while acting out the pose, as we were able to clearly see whether it would work.
