Filming Day 3 - 20/02/15

Our third day of filming consisted of us again filming our main dancer, however this time we were filming outside and was using no green screen. We decided that because the location was different, we should change the dancers costume in order to shift the narrative. We chose another casual looking outfit and also changed the dancers hairstyle. We decided to film shots with and without the tripod, to see which would look better when it came to editing. The dancer had choreographed a different routine for these shots, so that there was no repetition during the video.

We decided to use a range of different camera shots and angles as we had a lot of space, this would make the shots look more interesting and make our video look more professional. On our first run through we filmed using a full body shot, so that all the dance moves could be seen. We liked the idea of having the open background in the shot, so tried shooting with camera slightly further back. Whilst we was filming, we had the song playing out loud so that the dancer could be sure the moves matched the song and the lyrics. On our second run through we decided to film using a close up shot of the dancer from the shoulders upwards; this way we could clearly see him lip syncing. However when it came to editing, we felt that the shots where the audience could see the dance moves where more suitable, as they fitted the narrative better. Like the other dance shots we filmed, we made sure that the moves were upbeat to match the fun tone of the song. We also filmed using a birds eye shot, by holding the legs of the tripod and holding it above the dancer. However when it came to editing we felt that this particular shot did not fit with the genre of the song, as a birds eye shot is usually used in a R&B type of music video. On day one of filming we tried a panning shot around our artist James Gomez, when we watched this back we decided that we really liked this shot, so tried this when filming our dancer. Our first attempt involved using a panning shot from one side to the other, then we tried the 360 degrees circle shot. However when it came to editing we felt that again the focus should be on the dance moves.

We decided that to make our video stand out, we would have the dancer do complex moves that would appeal to the audience. Due to safety precautions, we made sure that our dancer was trained so that they did not hurt themselves. Before we filmed the move, we listened to the song to see where it would fit in best, we had an idea to put the move in slow motion, therefore we decided to edit it over a part of the song where there was no lyrics. We used a full body shot on our first attempt of filming the move, and on the second attempt we filmed a close up. When it came to editing this particular clip, we decided that the shot where the background could be seen was more appealing, as the audience would be able to see the dancer in the air. In some music videos, stunts and complex dance moves are repeated over the chorus or a repeated line, therefore we felt it would be effective to repeat the clip twice at different points in the video.
